Brian's Story
Brian Charles Richard Muha was born on July 23, 1980 at Deaconess Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. When he was 10 months old his family moved to Westerville, a suburb of Columbus, Ohio. It was the only home he ever knew.
Brian attended St. Paul School, Christifideles School and St. Charles Preparatory High School. Because of on-going pain in his heels and ankles, Brian couldn't play sports until he was 14 years old. He then went out for the football team and became a starting running back and defensive back. He lettered three years on the Varsity Team. He also lettered in lacrosse and wrestling and he liked to ski, camp and hike. (Continued on next slide...) Brian was an excellent student. He was in the National Honor Society, won Algebra, Chemistry, and Latin awards and took Honors and Advanced Placement courses in high school. He was the freshman class president, student council secretary and student council vice president. Brian was the St. Charles delegate to Buckeye Boys' State in his senior year.
Brian was a loving and caring person who always wanted to help others. He was a regular volunteer at Broadleigh Elementary School, Grant Hospital, and the St. John Community Center. (Continued...) Entering his first year of college with 15 credits because of his Advanced Placement work, Brian attended Franciscan University in Steubenville from August 1998 to May 1999. He was in the Honors Program. His goal was to become a doctor. (Continued...) On May 31, 1999, Brian's short life was ended when two killers who chose Brian's off-campus house at random broke in, assaulted Brian and his friend Aaron Land, and killed them. But Brian did not live - or die - in vain. His kind and charitable spirit lives on in his family and friends who are now committed to helping others in his name.
